In Las Vegas, we talk about casinos, entertainment, and tons of money. What most of us don’t see is the beauty just outside Sin City. The Hoover Dam is only 40 minutes from Las Vegas. Nelson Ghost Town and Valley of Fire 50. While you likely want to spend a day in Valley Of Fire. The Hoover Dam and Nelson Ghost Town are perfectly doable in one day.

Hoover Dam
Only 40 minutes outside Las Vegas. The Hoover Dam, or Boulder Dam, is named after Boulder City. Considering the time it was built, the Hoover Dam is some high-level engineering. The building of the dam started in 1930 and was finished in 1936.
There is a parking lot close to the visitor center. The exhibitions in the visitor center teach about the built and history of the dam. Once outside, you can walk to the dam and stand in the middle of this wonderful piece of engineering.
Nelson Ghost Town
This small ghost town is known by many and also not known by many. This way, we still consider it a hidden gem. Fifty minutes from Las Vegas and 40 minutes from the Hoover Dam, this can be perfectly done in one day.
Nelson Ghost Town is an old mining town. It used to be called Eldorado, and it was found in the 1850s during the gold rush. Walk through this little town and go back in history, winding through old barns, buildings, and old rusty cars.
Valley of Fire
The drive from the Strip in Las Vegas to the visitor center in Valley of Fire is about 50 minutes. Valley of Fire is known for it’s roads soaked up by the scenery.Valley of Fire consists of 40.000 acres of bright Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone. For a photo like the one below, drive to this point.
If there is a hike you need to do it is the Fire Wave, White Domes and Seven Wonders Loop. It is one of the hikes you can find on AllTrails and we think it’s a perfect one in all to explore Valley of Fire.
